ESSE QUAM VIDERI

To Be Rather Than to Seem to Be

On March 17, 1917, five innovative women at New York University Law School took a pledge of sisterhood and loyalty and so founded the Alpha Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon, the first non-sectarian, social sorority founded at a professional school. Five years later on March 17, 1922, Delta Phi Epsilon was formally incorporated under laws of the State of New York.

The Beta Psi chapter of the Delta Phi Epsilon sorority. The Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Phi Epsilon was founded on February 11, 1996. Since then we have grown and developed into a sisterhood where members support each other, are socially aware, engaged in the community, and excel in academics at Brandeis.

We have been a part of the Brandeis Community for more than 20 years and have grown to be the largest sorority at Brandeis. Every Fall and Spring semester we look for young women who want to be a part of the sisterhood. We seek to recruit women who find importance in creating a strong bond with sisters, a bond with the community by engaging in community service, and a bond with the Greek community at Brandeis.

A Note from our President

When I first arrived at Brandeis, my mom, DPhiE sister and my best friend, told me to choose the sorority I was most comfortable with and that would make loyal friends. But as a PNM, I saw more than that. Not only did I want these girls to be my friends, but I wanted to be like these girls. I wanted to be successful, I wanted to be kind, I wanted to be involved. I wanted to be confident the way they were. Most importantly, I wanted to be loved, unconditionally, the way that I saw they were loved by each other.

Love is a powerful thing, and when you are surrounded by this much of it the possibilities become endless. In a community full of encouragement and empowerment there is no reason to fear failure. The women in this sorority are my best friends, but also my role models. Their values of inclusion, self-love and self-respect, activism, education, and acceptance have become my values and bettered my experience at Brandeis. They have inspired me to be more confident, more ambitious, more happy... More myself.
